Remembering what we did before we had voicemail come around is not an easy thing to recall. It seems like we have always had voicemail. Before however, we had to depend on answering machines to get the job done. If we had misses a message for whatever reason the answering machine had to do the job of saving it for us.

Before we had answering machines or voicemail you would have to hope that the person you were trying to get in touch with was home. If they weren’t they would never even know that you had called. There was no way to leave any sort of message for them.

Devices like these that allow for you to leave messages for people are however a necessary evil. People can’t be by their phones every hour of every day. The convenience of voice mail and answering machines goes both ways. It’s convenient for both the person leaving the message as well as the person receiving it.

Just because leaving messages and making voicemail recordings has been around for a while doesn’t mean that people don’t make mistakes. A quick lesson in voicemail etiquette is good for everyone to have.
