Attending To Your Office Tool

We have an old joke I recall! One woman purchased a computer and she calls up customer service and says that she is following the instructions but can’t get her computer to start! On further querying from the customer support guy the woman says that she has inserted a clean and uninfected disk to start up the computer. She says that she also took the trouble of washing the disk with a disinfectant soap before inserting it into the computer!

Needless to say this might be going too far, and it is a tale that is eons old in computer years! In all fairness and in keeping up with the changing times, let’s be gender neutral and say that this could have happened to a man as well!

The fact is that if you wish to maintain your computer in running shape it’s not a funny business! It’s dead serious because a PC is an investment not merely when it comes to hardware but you also stand to lose your data and files in case you don’t take care of your computer.

Let’s go ahead and take the issue head-on and see what we have to do to look after a PC

1. Consider buying a legal copy of an anti-virus anti-malware solution in case your PC doesn’t come pre-packed with one. This will keep your PC running hassle free making it less prone to crashing. It will also make your surfing experience much safer.

2. Defrag Often! Defragmenting your computer’s hard drive is something the same as trying out files, papers, and stuff on your desk and keeping it neatly organized so that you can access it easily and quickly! Defragmenting your hard drive can help in increasing the computer’s performance. If you believe your personal computer is sluggish during a period of time, then often defragging helps to increase speed.

3. Maintain your registry! The registry is a sort of meta-data about the programs and software installed on your computer. This could and does become corrupted on occasion. There are a number of third party tools that can help you to keep your window’s registry in perfect working condition. This is not a job for the faint hearted users so become familiar with the registry and the type of tools that will help maintain your registry free of bloating. If uncertain, ask a technician or an educated user.

4. Ensure that it stays clean! Keep your PC inside a clean area that’s not vulnerable to dust! This is particularly important in the case of a laptop. Not merely will your laptop feel better whenever you clean it regularly, you will also feel better when you use it!

5. Backup! Backup! Backup! In spite of everything that we do, accidents do happen and hard disks do crash! To be on the safe side keep a backup of all of your files and save them on a USB drive or a DVD/CD once in a while!

Following these basic rules can help to make your computing experience safe and fun! Happy computing!
