More about the four major international parcel delivery companies
Monday, May 7th, 2012When you want to send a parcel, you will find that there are a bewilderingly large number of different options to choose from, as well as companies and services. However, if you want to send a parcel to an international destination, it is likely that you will use one of four companies.
Four major international parcel delivery firms are currently leading the market, and you may know some of them. These are DHL, TNT Express, UPS and FedEx, and you may want to know a bit of basic information on each of these countries before you choose one to send your package or parcel with.
TNT Express is the first parcel delivery service we will look at. The firm was set up in Hoofddorp in the Netherlands, and it still has its headquarters there to this day. Delivering documents, parcels, packages and freight to over 200 countries throughout the world, TNT Express has operations running in more than 65 countries and has one of the largest express networks in the whole of Europe.
One of TNT’s major competitors is United Parcel Service (UPS), a parcel delivery service based out of Sandy Springs, in the US state of Georgia. UPS, known for its recognisable brown trucks, is responsible for delivering more than 15 million packages a day to millions of customers in more than 220 countries.
Next up is FedEx, formerly known as Federal Express. As it has one of the largest civil aircraft fleets in the world, FedEx is known for its first class, far-reaching air freight service, as well as other parcel delivery and courier services.
Last but by no means least is DHL Express. Originally founded in America and named after its founders, Dalsey, Hillblom and Lynn, DHL moved to a new headquarters in Bonn, Germany in 2001 when it was acquired by Deutsche Post. It is known for being a world market leader in air and sea parcel delivery services.
